Research Question (RQ): How to place ethics in relation to consciousness, judgment and decision-making ability in the modern time of global crises and risk society?
Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to present reflections on ethics and morality and thus lay the foundations that will serve as an appropriate methodology for proper observation, reflection, compassion and judgment of events and ethical dilemmas. The goal of our research is to open up the concept of ethics in the context of consciousness, which is required by the time of global crises and risk society.
Method: In the research, we used qualitative methodology, comparative content analysis. We analyzed the content of seven sources in foreign and Slovene language. In the Google Scholar web browser, we used the search words and phrases ethics, consciousness, concept of consciousness, theories of consciousness, self, brain, neuroscience, neuroaesthetics.
Results: When humanity's consciousness gets dangerously close to selfishness, egocentricity and the two-dimensionality of matter, it risks its own downfall. The floods of 2023, which severely affected Slovenia, revived the collective spirit of solidarity. Has he finally come to his senses or is it just a passing phase of the hardships we are witnessing under the paradigm of climate change? The guarantee for the progress of generations is, without a doubt, a high spiritual, emotional and intellectual capital, which must be intertwined in all subsystems of society to protect individuals from their own shadows and enable only thematization.
Organization: Perhaps the ethic of the minimum really reigns at the moment, which is characteristic of the civilization of hardship and low growth as well as the phenomenon of the post-corona world, which centralizes the original energy of each individual. But despite everything, social movements, the attack on Ukraine and the activation of hitherto dormant individuals testify to the fact that we demand a different world. Ethics in practice, not just on paper.
Society: In the paradoxes of the present, the questions require a quick answer, because events in the world remind us of the "butterfly's flight" and the effects of modern times, which, even if caused somewhere behind God's back, are felt in the centers of abundance. Yes, in the paradox of the present it becomes clear that we are intertwined and that what happens to me happens to you. And what happens to you happens to all of us. Therefore, paradoxes may in themselves be the source and solution of all the resulting dilemmas that we as a civilization face. And there is no place, both physical and psychological, to hide in oblivion or stupor. That is why the contradictions and paradoxes of the present confront us in all respects. They face the consequences of our longings, actions, actions and thoughts, which can be higher, more comprehensive and more constructive than ever before. And the way out of the paradox is clear; we just have to decide to be better each for ourselves and all together. For us. For the planet. For posterity and ancestors.
Originality: How can we progress if we do not reach a point in ourselves that says that growth is only possible through the process of insight and silence and internal observation, where we learn the most from the situation (e.g. covid)? So, some current stagnation that does not support the idea of exponential growth and continuous expansion, qualitative progress is not possible. And if we constantly poke around in the soil to see if the seed germinates, we destroy that developmental phase of silence, which is a necessary condition for growth. The "stop" that scares us is not the negation of the truth, but the path to it.
Limitations/Future Research: A limitation of our research is certainly the lack of discourse on the ethics of consciousness. The limitation gives rise to countless possibilities for further research: How to solve the paradoxes of organizations and companies facing a crisis of business, identity and mission? How to navigate between transformation and the demand for culture change? How to build a non-buildable? How to motivate those who have fallen asleep in the process of changing the organizational culture and are consciously or unconsciously stopping it? How to set new criteria for evaluating competences, knowing that every measurement instrument that measures the climate or emotional intelligence of employees inherently generates new ambiguities and only measures what it predicts in advance?
