Research Question (RQ): Are learning organization elements of the FUTURE-O® model present in the selected regional hospital?
Purpose: The purpose of our study was to examine the elements/indicators of a learning organization according to the FUTURE-O® model in the selected regional hospital and to submit proposals for improving the current situation.
Method: A quantitative survey was conducted among nurses in a regional hospital in Slovenia.
Results: We found that the regional hospital shared the characteristics of a learning organization in learning and knowledge transfer. We also found that the regional hospital did not meet the criteria for a learning organization in open communication, information support, and values, and only partly met the criteria in vision, strategy, strategic goals, and knowledge records. The nurses in the regional hospital, however, were highly motivated for education.
Organization: The results of the survey will be of practical use to all nursing care leaders in the regional hospital, the management of the regional hospital, as well as to other researchers in conducting further analyses on the basis of our findings and additional data.
Originality: In our research, we determined and clarified the learning organization indicators of the FUTURE-O® model in the case of a regional hospital, which had not been done thus far. In this way, we have made a partial contribution to the development of theory and the field.
Limitations/Future Research: The survey was conducted among nurses in a selected regional hospital. Suggestions for further research: Conducting a survey among all employees of the regional hospital, conducting a survey of other hospitals in Slovenia and comparing the results, and conducting surveys of hospitals abroad (e.g. Austria) and comparing the results.
