Abstract

Research Question (RQ): Does Slovenia’s developmental strategy consider sustainable tourism development a concept, where providers are partially or totally responsible for their environment? What is the opinion of foreign and domestic experts on the direction for responsible and sustainable tourism and which foreign cases can we look upon?

Purpose: The purpose of the research study is to identify the state in the field of responsible and sustainable tourism in Slovenia and in which areas responsible and sustainable attitude is still present and where is there room for improvements.

Method: As the research method we used the descriptive method or study of literature in the form of review of articles and other literature.

Results: Concrete examples of results or development of socially responsible and sustainable tourism in Slovenia, expert’s opinions and suggestions, good practices and ideas from abroad. The results showed that the sustainable concept is the basis of Slovenia’s tourism development strategy and that opinions of experts on the sustainable concept are slowly coming to realization in all areas. Foreign countries are concerned with similar issues and their experts advise stricter laws for environmental protection, a more sustainable development in protected areas and education, inclusion into planning and particularly communicating with local residents.

Organization: The study is devoted to managers offering accommodations, tourist agents and leaders of local, regional and national institutes for tourism development planning.

Society: Through the study we want to impact the entire society in terms of importance of responsible and sustainable tourism development in Slovenia and abroad.

Originality: The originality of the study is in the fact, that there are not many studies on this subject and for the first time all essential findings from selected resources are combined.

Limitations of Research: The limitation of the study represents only a certain number of reviewed resources.
