Abstract

Research Question (RQ): How diversity planning works in selected companies and organizations in Slovenia, due to the fact that diversity as such, if managed properly, has been recognised as an important strategic decision with a positive impact on commercial advantage in the successful companies abroad?

Purpose: The purpose of the research was empirical research on managerial measures of diversity planning in organizations and to propose suggestions to improve the existing situation in the field of diversity planning.

Method: The population was represented by 71 Slovenian companies and organizations, which are also signatories of the Diversity Charter Slovenia. The results were statistically processed using appropriate statistical methods, the findings were included in the conclusion of the research.

Results: It has been found that all companies and organizations devote a lot of attention to the integration and acceptance of diverse employees based on personal circumstances, respect for equal opportunities and respect for legal frameworks. Diversity as a strategic decision lacks attention in planning, evaluation, development and exploitation as a strategic decision that, with proper management, could improve business outcomes and gain business advantage, and could improve social responsibility.

Organization: We proposed recommendations for managerial measures for diversity management for all four basic areas of management - planning, organizing, leading and controlling. The size of companies and organizations is not important.

Society: Management must strive at all levels of organization to ensure that all employees, business partners and other stakeholders understand diversity as a strategic goal. It is also important to examine the needs of customers and other stakeholder groups on which the organization depends for economic success.

Originality: We found that effective diversity management is a relatively new social phenomenon in Slovenia, which is gradually gaining ground in the economic and non-economic business environment. Although diversity planning has not yet been sufficiently researched and diversity is not part of the commitment of business leaders, and it is not sufficiently recognized as a building block of added value within organizations.

Limitations/Future Research: In the research, we limited ourselves to managerial measures in the field of diversity planning within these organizations. We did not provide measures in the areas of organizing, managing and controlling diversity. We also did not explore the competencies and responsibilities of managers towards diversity at different levels of organization. Based on the results, we prepared proposals for further research.
