Abstract

Research Question (RQ): Whether women who spend more time doing house chores perform running exercise more often in the evening than man do? Whether respondents who spend more time traveling to work and from work spend several hours of training weekend as respondents who spend less time for transportation to work and work and whether respondents who spend more time in commuting daily spend more hours of training during the weekend as respondents who spend less time in commuting daily?

Purpose: The purpose of the research is to determine how runners organize time for running training despite all obligations.

Method: We used a quantitative methodology, a questionnaire. The questionnaire was composed of two parts. In the first part there were demographic questions and in the second part there were questions made by ourselves namely questions about the running habits of the respondents. For the survey we used an online program called “1ka”. Sport clubs Vaitapu and Knights of good running helped us in getting contacts. They sent an e-mail link of the web site “1ka” to all registered members of both sports clubs.

Results: We rejected both hypotheses despite the fact that we proved the first part of the first hypothesis namely that women spend more time on house chores than men. A comparison of when women and men do a running training does not show significant differences that’s why we cannot confirm the assumption that women do more often running training in the evening than men. Likewise, the results do not confirm the assumption that respondents who spend more time in commuting daily spend more time of training during the weekend as respondents who spend less time in commuting daily.

Organization: The results show trends in organizing time between the private and business lives of runners.

Society: To inform the society that a good organization of time is very important in time when we have more and more working responsibilities that we can gain additional time which we can spend for recreation.

Originality: We have not seen any similar research in Slovenia in the field of organizing time for training so therefore we believe that the survey on the model of runners who are members of the running clubs was necessary and justified.

Limitations/Future Research: The survey was made on a sample of runners who are members of the running clubs and not other runners. This is a casual sampling, characterized by voluntary participation in the survey and it is completed only by those who are interested in the field of research. In the future it would be interesting to explore the link between the time spent for house chores, the time spend on the child care and the time spend for recreation.
